Editorial
Thanks to the domestication of the horse, human history followed a path that led us to where we are today - with progress at best, and disturbance of the ecological balance at worst. As a result of our choices.
Conqueror of the world, inveterate dominator, man has also taken over the life of the horse, on the pretext that it is its lack of intelligence and its ignorance of its own physical strength which lead it to accept what is asked of it - whether it be to head in the direction of the slaughterhouse, the arena or the equestrian sports venue, where it is presented as 'our noblest conquest'.
And yet the behaviour and lifestyle of horses - their own choices, when we allow them to make them - could serve as an example for us, and inspire in us new ideas on how to improve the structure of our society, our health or our environment.
This edition of Natural Horse Planet launches a necessary debate on the foundations of the relationship between man and horse. If we could make them evolve towards a mutual understanding, the well-being of all would be enhanced.
