EQUITOPIA Events
1 From Horse... to Horse
The free-running horses make up a group or community of animals that works on the same principles as the horse's innate family structure. Imagine a stranger inviting himself into this group, which is united in one harmonious and fluid social movement with all the complexities of interaction and social contacts. That is exactly what the rider or pair (horse/rider) competing in this first event has to do.
The audience will easily be able to watch them and the judges have to analyze their approach to the challenge set, which entails putting the halter on one of the herd members, separating him from his "family" with the help of a rope and successfully negotiating with him one of the obstacles chosen from the Step by Step event. Each competitor may choose any horse from the herd. However, the following competitor is not allowed to choose the same horse as the preceding competitor. The starting order will be drawn by lot.
Level A : on foot
Level B : mounted (on your own horse)
2 Horseman's Pleasure
All competitors ride their horses into the arena. They progress together across the pasture carrying out the judges' instructions at the same time. Judges may ask them to proceed at a walk, trot or gallop and on both sides, make a half turn and back up. This is entirely at the judges' discretion.
The judges may make things more or less difficult depending on the level of the competition. They will usually ask for walk-trot-walk, but they may complicate the competitors' task by asking, for example: trot-walk-gallop-walk, or to longe the horse being guided. The difficulty lies in working around the free-moving herd of horses in the pasture.
Level A : with your horse 1 only
Level B : guiding your horse 2 alongside your horse 1
