With the application…

They Kill Horses, Don’t They ?

by Pierre Enoff

Horses have given me an enormous amount over the last thirty years; they have borne with my mistakes, my relational approximations. So the best way to thank them for this tolerance is in fact to try to communicate what I have experienced with them, to open up the birdcage.

An enormous task, especially when the institutional leaders - national stud farms, major stables, veterinary schools, the world of racing and competition -tirelessly continue, thanks to powerful economic and communication resources, to churn out unbelievable aberrations.

Calling things into question requires a minimum of open-mindedness and at least a good dose of respect, which certainly seems to be missing in "the institutional equestrian world".

May those who have truly applied themselves to considering the horse as an individual excuse this generality: we human beings are not very elegant, and not very generous in respect of this species which has followed us with its eyes closed in all our follies.

Still today horses are dying too young, and in silence.

How can we not consider that the approach of our 'institutionals', of our federal representatives, therefore our approach, represents an attitude of hypocritical swine to the extent that, for our pleasure, and solely for our pleasure, we restrain (with horseshoes, bits, stalls, doping...) the individuals of a species that we say we love.
