A sense of guilt or a sense of responsibility?
1986 : « With the creation of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, the fight against eating horsemeat will go on indefinitely ».
War has just been declared...
1994 : « Intervention by the actress, who provokes a real outcry and the anger of horsemeat butchers, some of whom go as far as sending her death threats »
The empire strikes back...
December 2007 : The BB Foundation « decides to put in place a powerful system to inform the widest possible public of the carnage generated by hippophagy and try to deal the finishing blow to the horsemeat trade. »
Olé!
Despite all these efforts the consumption of horsemeat continues, along with violent verbal exchanges between those who do not accept choices being imposed on them and those who are convinced that their fight is justified.
All this has led me to express a few thoughts.
Why has this campaign given rise to such violent reactions for so many years ? Because it tries to make certain participants in the food chain feel guilty before making the general public aware of their responsibilities
Fight hippophagy ? No longer eat horses ? Our fondest dream, but it's the last stage in a long process of becoming aware, and not the first.
